9-year-old’s Love for Berston.
Funds raised in support of Breann’s goal will support $57,000 needed for children’s playground.
Meet 9-year-old Breann, a dedicated patron of Berston Field House, who is raising funds for the capital campaign in honor of her birthday on December 12. Breann set a goal to raise $500 through a Facebook fundraiser, and already raised $271. To help support her efforts, Friends of Berston is calling on the community to help her raise the remainder to support Berston’s Next 100 Campaign.
Breann is an active participant in two of Berston’s youth programs, Leading Ladies and The Chosen Few Arts Council (TCFAC). She is deeply connected to the Field House, being part of a multi-generational family that has benefited from its recreational offerings. Her grandfather regularly swam at Berston’s pool, and her father and uncles spent time playing basketball in the gym. Breann is now the third generation in her family to be positively impacted by Berston, a testament to the enduring legacy and importance of this local community hub.
“I love Berston and had so much fun at TCFAC Summer Camp, learning basketball like my dad, practicing karate with my dad’s teacher, and exploring art,” shared Breann. “I’m excited about the new building! I hope it includes playgrounds—one for big kids and one for little kids.”
Breann’s fundraiser is a shining example of what the Berston Next 100 campaign represents. The Berston Next 100 Capital Campaign is an initiative to expand and renovate Berston Field House, enhancing its historic role as a vital community hub. The campaign aims to build a new state-of-the-art recreation center, and renovate existing spaces for indoor and outdoor sports, arts, education and community activities, ensuring Berston’s legacy of service to Flint and Genesee County residents for the next 100 years.
Proceeds from Breann’s fundraising efforts will go toward the $57,000 needed to build the children’s playground.
